Controller Embedded System
Pointe
Control and the 21st Century Factory Information System:
 |
Constant
demand for increased productivity and profitability has once
again returned the focus to the shop floor environment. |
Real-time
performance management tools are being combined with the traditional
enterprise systems to improve the business automation. Line balancing,
cycle times, trackside fulfillment, supply chain efficiency, WIP and
quality are but a few of the metrics that must be dynamically monitored
to drive the enterprise toward optimum performance.
The
Concept: Technical Convergence
Industrial
Ethernet has changed the Factory Information System landscape. In
a domain orientated architecture the real time flow of information
is the lifeblood of the enterprise and crucial if performance targets
are to be met. Providing the vital link often requires the integration
of a diverse set of shop floor equipment and legacy system technology,
many of which are unable to support the protocols and formats of
a current day transaction based processing. Pointe Controller technology
brings together enterprise connectivity and advanced e-control software
with local I/O control, local HMI and data acquisition. The result
is a cost effective, easy to implement, high performance information-centric
controller/intelligent equipment interface; effective in stand alone
or enterprise-wide e-control networks.
The
Difference: Intelligent Equipment Interface
Pointe Controller means manufacturing need no
longer be an island in the enterprise. Pointe Controller provides
localized modular control along with a high speed data interface
for real time data communication. Pointe Controller utilizes industry
standards such as XML, SOAP and Java to speed the integration of
shop floor equipment and business logic and device network protocols
such as Modbus TCP/IP, UDP/IP.
The
Advantage: Extensive Capability, Lower Costs
The Pointe Controller extends automation capabilities
previously available only in PC-based control to more cost conscious
embedded control and data management applications. A single development
environment unifies the programming of machine functions in Visual
Flow Chart, Relay Ladder Logic and Java whilst eliminating the need
for additional PC interfaces to manage IT intensive applications
such as Electronic Product Code – RFID, database server applications,
XML based data transaction and CAMX Networking. The modular PTC-5821
hardware platform very cost effectively deploys an extensive range
of local or distributed OptiLogic I/O Modules for machine or process
interface, local HMI modules along with Ethernet and serial connectivity
as standard.
