OptiMate® OM1510
Operator Terminal
|
|
|
The OM1510 Operator Terminal is a low cost/high performance
man/machine interface with a broad range of operator-input
and display capabilities. The terminal includes a 2 line by
20 character LCD display, a full numeric keypad, two function
keys, three LED light bar indicator lights and menu tree capability.
|
OptiMate® configuration software allows you to predefine
up to 160 messages. These messages can be later selected by your
PLC or computer program to display status, variable data and allow
numeric data input. Messages can also be configured into a layered
menu tree, which allows you the ability to create hierarchical function
selection for the operator. For computer applications, additional
messages can be sent directly over the serial communication port.
Indicator lights and function keys can be custom labeled
by the user with a plastic insert. The insert can be custom legended
with text and/or graphics, and slips into a protective pocket behind
the faceplate.
The OM1510 Operator Terminal is part of Optimation's
OptiMate® series. Each OptiMate® module is designed to connect to
a microprocessor or most PLC's with a single cable connection. OptiMate®
modules can be used individually, or together with any combination
of other OptiMate® modules.
When used with a microprocessor system, simple communications
over either an RS232 or RS422 communications cable allows the microprocessor
to directly control the lights and LCD display as well as read numeric
data entry and function key status.
When used with a PLC, operation is transparent to
the user. Terminal functions tie directly into your PLC ladder logic
program. The OM1510 takes care of the rest.

Operational Overview
The OM1510 Terminal incorporates all of the basic elements necessary
for operator interface. Indicator lights highlight status, function
keys allow operator function selection, the alphanumeric display
provides text information, and the numeric keypad allows data entry
and adjustment. Together, the alphanumeric display and associated
pushbuttons also allow for user-defined menu tree selection of functions.
The OM1510 interfaces over either an RS232 or RS422
serial link to any computer-based system and many popular PLCs.
In a computer-based system, interface occurs via a very easy to
use OptiMate® Hex protocol. For a PLC-based system, operation is
totally controlled through a bank of 8 PLC registers. Everything
else is handled by the OM1510 Terminal.
PLC-Based Systems
PLC-based systems access the OM1510 via a bank of 8 registers. Lights
and buttons appear as coils and contacts (or register bits) in the
PLC. Messages can be predefined, stored in the OM1510 and used by
the PLC program. To use a predefined message, your PLC program simply
places the message number that you have associated with the message
into a PLC register. Text, data display, keypad data entry and arrow
adjustment messages are all available. Up to 160 messages can be
predefined.
There are three types of messages that handle numeric
values. A data display message will display the value you place
in the line's data register in the message field that has been predefined.
The top display line on the right illustrates a data display message.
The message has been predefined as message # 6. The carets(^) in
the message are place holders for the numeric display. To use the
message to display data, simply place the value '6' in the top line
message select register and the value (in this case, 347.6) in the
top line data register. The OM1510 takes care of the rest.
Data entry and adjustment work similarly, with data
ending up in the PLC data register.
The OM1510 allows up to four levels of menu. Each
menu selection can be either a function or the next lower menu level.
With this type of "tree" arrangement, you can construct an application
menu that allows the user quick easy access to a large number of
functions.
Use with a Computer
The OM1510Terminal provides all of the same capabilities to a computer-based
system that it does to a PLC system. It also provides the added
capability of utilizing additional messages that are not predefined,
but are passed over the serial link. The OptiMate® Hex protocol
makes computer-based applications a very simple undertaking.
