About Nematron ===================================================================== 1. Introduction Paragon TNT process management software serves a wide range of industrial process monitoring and control applications, from operator HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces) to complex plant-wide SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and information management systems. 2. What is Paragon? Paragon provides a peer-to-peer client/server technology by distributing application functions into multiple servers (those functions which acquire, generate, or store data) and multiple clients (those functions which utilize the data for display or presentation). This modular design allows client and server subsystems to function independently, or in any combination, to form a fully integrated system, on a single station or distributed across a network. New client and server subsystems can be added without impacting the existing implementation, providing Paragon with the scalability required to expand as process applications grow. Paragon is made up of six client subsystems and five server subsystems. The server subsystems include: • Process I/O (PIO) Server manages communications between Paragon and your plant floor I/O hardware. • Continuous Strategy (CS) Server guarantees the on-time execution of critical process algorithms. • Data Manager (DM) Server manages historical and real-time process data which is acquired or generated by other subsystems. • Application Manager (AM) is the nucleus of Paragon. It is the launch pad for entering all the subsystem builders and for executing Runtime. • OpenControl (OC) performs high-speed sequential control for applications, similar to PLCs. The client subsystems include: • Operator Interface (OI) Client provides the graphical display of real-time and historical process data generated by server subsystems. • Quick Reports Client allows you to generate a variety of common process reports without programming. • Recipes Client manages process recipes in order to change or save the values of designated function elements during runtime. • ActiveX (OLE) Controls allow you to integrate Paragon with any ActiveX-compliant third party applications, for example, with an operator interface developed in Visual Basic. • Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) Client lets you integrate any third party application that supports the DDE protocol. • Engineer Interface (EI) Client provides online diagnostic and display tools to easily test, debug, and optimize applications. Server and client functions can execute in the same computer, or in separate computers linked by a high-speed LAN. Because client and server subsystems can be transparently distributed across network nodes, there are no limitations to the size or complexity of your application. Real-time data generated by any server on the network is available to any client on the network through Paragon's Common Resource Access (CRA) layer. Paragon's client and server subsystems provide high quality and reliability by always capturing the most critical process events (such as alarms), even if less critical events (such as report generation) occur simultaneously. Data integrity is assured by maintaining only a single copy of each process value throughout the entire system. In addition, a unique system of quality tagging marks suspect data in your historical archives. Paragon also provides open links to third party software, such as relational databases, spreadsheets, and statistical analysis packages. This allows you to seamlessly integrate Paragon's subsystems with your existing software systems. By combining Paragon's different client and server subsystems, you have the flexibility to select the exact functionality you need for your application. 3. System requirements To use Paragon TNT 5.60, you must have: • a uniprocessor AT-compatible system running the EISA/ISA HAL • a 486DX 66 MHz or faster processor • 32 MB RAM installed • 200 MB free hard disk space • a parallel port (for the Hardkey License dongle) • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 or later *OR* Microsoft Windows 2000, any Service Pack NOTE: Microsoft Windows Me and Windows XP are not supported in this version of Paragon TNT. 4. Installation To install Paragon TNT: 1) Unzip the file 'PG56DEMO.zip' onto your desktop. 2) In the folder 'Install Paragon', locate and double-click LOADWIN.EXE. 3) Follow the instructions onscreen. When you are prompted for an installation type, choose Paragon Test Drive then click Next. 4) Under Standard Components, make sure that Builder, Runtime, and Onbaord Demo are all checked, then click next. 5) Under Process IO Drivers, make sure that at least Simulated I/O Driver is checked, then click Next. NOTE: You may check other drivers if you already know what I/O hardware you will interface with. Depending on the drivers you chose, you may be presented with a PIO Adapter Configuaration dialog. 6) Finish the installation and review the Release Notes (included in the Documentation folder). The installation will create a Nematron Paragon program folder in the Start menu. Select Paragon OnBoard Demo to start Paragon and automatically run the demo application. To log onto the Paragon Application Manager (AM), choose Security from the AM menu and enter Username "Guest" (without the quotes) with a blank password. The Paragon documenation is in Acrobat PDF format and requires Acrobat Reader to view it. To uninstall Paragon at any time, choose "Paragon 5.60" from the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel. 5. Technical support This free evaluation version of Paragon TNT is distributed as is and does not include any direct technical support by phone or email. If you have any questions, please refer to the online help files and the Paragon User Manual, or visit our customer support Web site . 6. Evaluation terms This free evaluation version of Paragon TNT includes a single, limited-time Evaluation License. Under this License, Paragon TNT will automatically quit after five (5) hours of continuous use, after which you must restart the program to resume running your applications. This restriction makes the evaluation version impractical for use in a production environment. 7. Purchasing Paragon TNT If you would like to purchase Paragon TNT, please call 1-800-NEMATRON between 8am and 5pm EST (1pm and 10pm GMT). The complete Paragon TNT package includes: • a Nematron Software 5.60 CD • printed copies of the Paragon TNT documentation • a Hardkey License dongle, configured for your chosen license • 30 days free technical support Additional Hardkey Licenses are sold separately. Extended support contracts are also available. 8. About Nematron Nematron has been setting the standard for industrial automation products since it was founded in 1983.
