About Nematron ===================================================================== 1. What is OpenControl? OpenControl provides a framework to program and run machine control applications on a Windows NT/2000 system. The framework for OpenControl includes one main program, the framework editor, and a number of Dynamic Link Library (DLL) files that define the behavior of user configurable resources. Resources include such items as flowcharts, device related input/output (I/O), and variables in logic memory. You create projects within the OpenControl Development Framework (OCDF) and use either the Visual Flowchart Language (VFL) or the Relay Ladder Logic (RLL) editor to program your machine control application. VFL represents flowchart-based programming and real- time control. RLL simulates the legacy PLC programming tools based on the IEC 1131 standard. Either way, the framework arranges the project's resources in a hierarchy and displays this in a navigable development environment. Each resource's properties describe instructions and attributes for that resource. You build the project by adding resources to the project's hierarchy and defining the resource properties. After completing a project, you can debug and build (compile) the project into an executable control application. A control engine drives the application's runtime operations, and the HyperKernel extensions for Windows NT/2000 enable deterministic real-time control of your application's tasks. You can connect to third party Windows compatible software such as spreadsheets through the popular Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) interface. For further enhancement of your machine control application, you can use OLE for Process Control (OPC) or the OpenControl APIs and DLLs to add operator interfaces, enterprise- wide networking, and other high-powered capabilities. 2. System requirements To use OpenControl 5.60, you must have: • a uniprocessor AT-compatible system running the EISA/ISA HAL • a Pentium 133 MHz or faster processor • 64 MB RAM installed • 15 MB free hard disk space • a parallel port (for the Hardkey License dongle) • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 or later *OR* Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 or 3 NOTE: Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 1, Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, Windows Me (all), and Windows XP (all) are not supported in this version of OpenControl. 3. Installation To install OpenControl: 1) Unzip the file "OC56DEMO.zip" onto your desktop. 2) In the folder "Install OpenControl", locate and double-click SETUP.EXE. 3) Follow the instructions onscreen. When you are prompted for an installation type, choose Standard. 4) Finish the installation and review the Release Notes (included in the Documentation folder). 5) After the installation finishes, the HyperKernel Configuration Wizard will automatically launch. The Configuration Wizard helps you to set up your computer to support the HyperKernel runtime engine. Follow the instructions onscreen. If you need to make any changes to your configuration, you can rerun the Configuration Wizard at any time. NOTE: You must have a good technical understanding of your system settings to use the OpenControl Configuration Wizard. See Chapter 5 of the OpenControl Reference Manual for more information. 6) After the HyperKernel Configuration Wizard finishes, you must restart your computer for the changes to take effect. The installation will create a Nematron OpenControl program folder in the Start menu. To test your installation: 1) From the Start menu, choose Nematron OpenControl > OpenControl Project Builder. 2) From the File menu, choose Open Project and select Demo from the Project selector box. 3) From the Project menu, choose Build Runtime or use the "Build Runtime" button on the toolbar. 4) From the Project menu, choose Start Simulated or use the "Start Simulated" button on the toolbar. OpenControl Monitor (OCM) will now start displaying start-up messages. The spinning Pyramid icon indicates the OpenControl System is running. The OpenControl documenation is in Acrobat PDF format and requires Arcobat Reader to view it. To uninstall OpenControl at any time, choose "OpenControl 5.60" from the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel. 4. Technical support This free evaluation version of OpenControl is distributed as is and does not include any direct technical support by phone or email. If you have any questions, please refer to the online help files or the OpenControl User Manual, or visit our customer support Web site . 5. Evaluation terms This free evaluation version of OpenControl includes a single, limited-time Evaluation License. Under this License, OpenControl will automatically quit after thirty (30) minutes of continuous use, after which you must restart OpenControl to resume running your compiled applications. This restriction makes the evaluation version impractical for use in a production environment. 6. Purchasing OpenControl If you would like to purchase OpenControl, please call 1-800-NEMATRON between 8am and 5pm EST (1pm and 10pm GMT). The OpenControl Development Package includes: • a Nematron Software 5.60 CD • printed copies of the OpenControl and HyperKernel documentation • a Hardkey License dongle, configured for your chosen license • 30 days free technical support Additional hardware keys are sold separately. Extended support contracts are also available. 7. About Nematron Nematron has been setting the standard for industrial automation products since it was founded in 1983.
